HEY GIRL, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF   Project start 2004 
Partner: International Foundation TAMPEP, Project is supported by MATRA 
This project is aimed:
1) to improve access of sex workers working on the border area to medical services, to increase their knowledge about HIV and sexually transmitted diseases prevention, diagnostics and treatment.

2) to develop national platform of NGOs and GOs dealing with sex workers' problems

Target group:

  • sex workers working in Lviv and Lviv region

Materials produced:

a) Leaflets:

  • Hey girl, take care of yourself
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Condoms and lubricants
  • Contraception and pregnancy
  • Problems which could appear using condom
b) Beer pads (4 kinds) for distribution in the bars
 
Integration of the European Model of 
Psychotherapeutic Clinical Care into Psychiatric Healthcare of Lviv, Ukraine
Project start: 2003

Project w should be implemented during the period of two years. The following activities and events are planed to be developed during this time:

I. CONFERENCES 
During a two-year term of the project 3 national conferences with the participation of the foreign participants will be held.

Conference 1.

Title: Necessity and Perspectives of Introducing the European model of Psychotherapeutic Inpatient Clinic Into the Structure of Psychiatric Care in Ukraine.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Conference 2.

Title: Psychotherapeutic Inpatient Clinic - the First Year Experience.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Conference 3.

Title: LPD Reorganization Experience - Creating a European Psychotherapeutic Clinic.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Reports, conference presentations, and workshops' materials will be published as a special supplement to "Forum of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy" magazine founded by the Ukrainian Umbrella Association of Psychotherapists.
Conducting of the conferences will serve as instrument for summarizing and discussing the gained experience and its promotion among professionals, patients, and general population of both Lviv region and the rest of Ukraine. This will activate destigmatization of patients and the psychiatric field itself, develop education of both physicians and patients, and will become a practical and methodical move towards reorganization the psychiatric care system.

II. SCHOOL OF EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE: CREATING AND MANAGING THE PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC INPATIENT CENTRE.

During a two-year period, 2 schools will be held.
One of these will envisage 2 academic semesters and 1 supervision semester (5 days each) during the period of one year.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Instructors: trainers from EAP and Bonn Psychotherapeutic Clinic - 5 persons.
Participants: 5 groups of 10 persons each (total of 50 persons) 
2 groups for nurses from LPD and LRSCPH (20 persons)
2 groups for physicians from LPD and LRSCPH (20 persons)
1 group for directors of psychiatric care services from different regions of Ukraine (10 persons)

During a two-year period, 40 nurses, 40 physicians, 20 psychiatric care directors from all regions of Ukraine will be trained.
Holding of the school will allow educating medical personnel for practical reorganization and management of the psychotherapeutic inpatient clinic. Obtaining education by European standards will make treatment more effective, substantially improve the physician-patient relationship, and will become an important instrument of destigmatizing mentally ill individuals and the entire field of psychiatry.

III. TRANSLATION AND PUBLISHING OF LITERATURE

During a two-year period, the following items will be translated and published:
Manuals for physicians and nurses 5
Manuals for patients(2) and their families on the course and treatment of depression, 
Psychosomatic disorders, 100000 handouts
Posttraumatic stress disorder,
Personality disorders,
Schizophrenia,
Bipolar affective disorders.

IV. REORGANIZATION OF WORK AT LPD AND INTEGRATION OF THE MODEL OF PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC INPATIENT CENTRE.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF Project start: 2002
Partner: PATH

The project Take Care of Yourself is focused on increase of information among the population of Lviv region about danger of cervical cancer and about possible ways of its prevention. The aim of the project is improvement of women access to medical-diagnostic services, providing qualified diagnostic and in time treatment of cervical cancer cases. Duration of the project is 2 years.

Project directions:
  • Design and publication of informational materials, concerning questions of cervical cancer prevention
  • Organization of informational telephone line on cervical cancer problems.
  • Organization of round tables with family doctors, dermatologists, post graduate physicians and teachers concerning cervical cancer prevention.
  • Promotion for Lviv region women access to medical-diagnostic services, directed for early diagnostic of cervical cancer cases.

Target group:

  • women of reproductive age

 

CENTRE OF SEXUAL HEALTH Project start: 1996
Partners: Open Society Institute, Scientific Medical-Diagnostic center ASTAR
Services provided:
  • counceling on the safe sex,
  • medical testing, examination and treatment of STIs and HIV
Target groups:
  • population in whole,
  • representatives of the risk groups regarding STI's, HIV/AIDS
Publications:
  • booklets "Know yourself, Protect yourself"

B-HEPATITIS COMPETENCE CENTRE Project start: 1996-2000
Partner: SmithKlain Beecham company (UK)
Services provided:
  • consultations of hepatologist
  • the hepatitis- B vaccination
Target groups:
  • population in whole,
  • medical staff

THE FIRST WESTUKRAINIAN PCR LAB FOR STIs DIAGNOSTICS Project start: 1999
Partner: the Open Society Institute, Scientific Medical-Diagnostic center ASTAR
Services provided:
  • Precise diagnising of the STIs with the use of PCR method (DNA-diagnostic) on PERKIN ELMER equipment
  • Epidemiological survey on spreading the STIs and HIV/AIDS
Target groups:
  • population in whole, representatives of the risk groups regarding STI's, HIV/AIDS
Publications:
  • poster "DNA-laboratory",

RAPE CRISIS CENTRE Project start: 1995
Partner: the International Renaissance Foundation, Scientific Medical-Diagnostic center ASTAR

The Centre provides women and girls victims of rape with medical and psychological care and diagnostics of STIs and HIV.

Target group:
  • women in crisis situation

WEST UKRAINIAN PROGRAMME ON TRAFFICKING IN WOMEN PREVENTION Project start: 1999
Partner: the Global Fund for Women, La Strada, TAMPEP
Target group:
  • the victims of trafficking in women after their return back to Ukraine
Services provided:
  • Diagnostics and medical treatment of STIs
  • Psychological counceling

"PRO FEMINAE"- STIs AND CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION Project start: 2000
Partner: the International Renaissance Foundation, Scientific Medical-Diagnostic center ASTAR
Services provided:
  • lections and trainings for medical workers and women about the STIs and cervical cancer prevention
  • development of the system for prompt diagnosing of the cervical cancer on early stages
  • diagnostics and treatment
Target groups:
  • women of reproductive age living in Lviv region
Publications:

MOON LIGHT - HARM REDUCTION PROGRAM FOR SEX WORKERS USING INJECTIVE DRUGS Project start: 2001
Partner: the Open Society Institute

The project is supported by the Open Society Institute. It has started in January 2001. It is planned to develop HIV prevention activity among the sex workers-drug users, to provide them with syringes, needles, condoms and lubricants, to publish the information leaflets about the STIs and AIDS, to ensure the access to medical and social services.

  • consultation of gynecologist, dermatologist and genito-urinary physytian
  • pre- and after- testing councelling regarding HIV/AIDS
  • diagnostics and treatment of STI's
  • syringe exchange
  • distribution of desinfectants, condoms and lubricants
  • informational services
  • outreach work

  • representatives of commercial sex business,
  • injective drugs users
